WASHINGTON, D.C., October 9, 2026 — As Hurricane Isaias approaches the northern Gulf Coast, the Emergency Management External Affairs Association (EMEAA) recognizes the emergency managers, public information officers, and external affairs professionals working to keep communities informed and prepared.

With dangerous storm surge, damaging winds and heavy rainfall threatening portions of the region, emergency management agencies and response partners are coordinating preparedness efforts and communicating critical information to communities in the storm's path.

"Effective emergency communication isn't just about getting a message out. It's about making sure people understand what it means and what they need to do," said Bob Jensen, president of EMEAA. "As Hurricane Isaias approaches, emergency managers and public information professionals are helping communities prepare and giving people the information they need to make good decisions. That takes coordination, clear messaging, and a shared commitment to the people we serve."

Effective emergency communications depend on coordination among emergency management agencies, public information officers, community organizations and response partners. Consistent messaging, accessible information and clear instructions help reduce confusion, build trust and support public safety throughout an emergency.

EMEAA recognizes the dedication of these professionals and the critical role they play before, during, and after disasters. Their work reflects the association's commitment to advancing crisis communications, strengthening collaboration and supporting the people and communities they serve.

Residents in potentially affected areas are encouraged to monitor official forecasts and warnings from the National Hurricane Center at hurricanes.gov and follow state and local emergency management agencies for evacuation instructions and other protective actions.
